Starter funds

We will be going after sponsors and large donations later, but right now we need “Starter Funds” to accomplish so much of the groundwork required.

All donations to a registered nonprofit such as ours are fully tax-deductible!  You can give those funds to the government or to us. As North Carolina State said in the 2024 NCAA Men’s Basketball Tournament, “Why Not Us?” We agree!

This will be a First Class, professional organization, with full-time paid staff, operating as a self-sustaining economic organization

This is our progress so far:

·      We are a fully registered nonprofit organization with the NC Secretary of State;

·      We have a Federal Tax Number;

·      We have an official post office box, bank account, email address, website, Facebook and Instagram page;

·      We have a Board of Directors;

·      A Board of Advisors;

·      We have a detailed Business Plan and a Strategic Plan;

·      We have a specific fundraising plan for Sponsorships, Donations, and Grants;

·      We have publicity from the Discovery Channel, Our State Magazine, WUNC Public Radio, Spectrum TV, WRAL-TV, Raleigh and hundreds of letters, comments and emails of support;

·      We have assembled a team of experts in their areas for guidance;

·      Stone & Lime, the company currently implementing the Cape Hatteras Lighthouse restoration, has expressed a strong interest in working with us;

·      BMH Architects, who did the earlier restoration work on this station has also expressed interest in working with us to conclude the project;

Our proposed floor plan is NOT a restoration. Rather, it is a Repurposing to include a Visitors Welcome Center, a Gift Shop, a museum room to honor all 29 of North Carolins’s twenty-nine US Life-Saving Stations, a Display room to recognize Sponsors, Donors and Supporters, an Event Venue room, a weather station, a webcam in the tower, dormitory rooms and other ideas as they develop, including YOUR suggestions!

This is funds to pay for the raising of funds. Will include:

  • Advertising and promotions costs – this is our immediate need

  • Hiring a professional fundraiser

  • Hiring a bookkeeper/accountant

  • Hiring a secretary

  • Engaging an architectural firm

  • Site plans

  • Feasibility studies

  • Consultants

  • Site security

  • Attorney fees

  • Insurance

  • Administrative costs

Any remaining funds will be invested in an Endowment Fund

This fund is so we can begin the Capital Campaign to raise $18.98 million to Rescue and Repurpose the magnificent 1898 Life-Saving/Coast Guard Station!

Send checks to The Outer Banks Coast Guard History Preservation Group (OBCGHPG), P.O. Box 633, Rodanthe, Nc 27968.

For more information, see our Facebook page of the same name and our new website OBXcoastguardHPG.com, still under construction.
